Epic Moments at the RT Booklovers Convention

I’m back from the fabulous RT Booklovers Convention, hosted by RT Book Reviews, and it was ah-mazing! Notwithstanding being in the same signing space as some truly exceptional authors (Anne Rice, J.R. Ward, Francine Pascal, Melissa Marr, Richelle Mead & Mary Janice Davidson to name a few), I also had the chance to meet other writers and many readers whom I’ve connected with on Twitter and Facebook, which was terrific. I was also able to catch up with some cool writer friends, like Kristi Cook, Jennifer Armentrout, Shannon Delany, Charlotte Bennardo & Natalie Zaman, as well as make a few new ones, like Carey Corp, Cate Hart, Lori Devoti, and several others.

On Saturday for Teen Day in YA Alley, I signed Bloodspell books for fans alongside the likes of Veronica Roth, Alyson Noel, Kelley Armstrong, Melissa de la Cruz & Sophie Jordan. Click on Meet the YA Authors in YA Alley for a snapshot of all the authors who signed in YA Alley at RT. For the book signing, I was seated between the lovely Colleen Houck and the vivacious Michele Jaffe, who made the experience far more fun than it should have been.

Following the signing, there were several very cool and educational panels with authors as well as a fabulous Teen Day Party, where fans were able to mix with their favorite YA authors. At the Teen Day Party, I even fangirled for a while with Francine Pascal, author of the original YA series, Sweet Valley High!

But the most epic moment for me at RT, was getting to meet one of my own book idols, the iconic author, Anne Rice! I have read all of her books and have been a huge fan throughout my life. A reviewer once compared my writing in Bloodspell to that of a young Anne Rice, and it is a comment that I will always treasure especially because of how much Anne Rice has influenced my own writing. She wished me success with my work, took a photo, hugged me AND wrote a wonderful autograph: “To Amalie Howard, all blessings on your writing! Such a pleasure, Anne Rice 2012.”

All in all, RT was a wonderful, intense experience. It’s a terrific conference for writers, authors, aspiring authors, readers, literary agents, publicity agents, book professionals, publishing experts, and pretty much for anyone interested in the book industry. At RT, I found that there was something for everyone, both adults and teens. Not only was it a great experience to learn and network, but it was also balanced with a heaping serving of FUN with parties, giveaways, and social mixers.

Yay, I’m so happy for you! It sounds EPIC! I wish I could have gone to RT this year, but I already have plans of road tripping it there with some CO book bloggers next year. WOOT! Thanks for sharing your experience :).
