Fall 2020 YA Scavenger Hunt

Welcome to the fantastic book circus that is the YA Scavenger Hunt! For those new to the fun-fest that is YASH, this bi-annual event was first organized by the fabulous Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to bonus material from their favorite authors … and a chance to win some awesome prizes!

So sad that this is the LAST YA scavenger hunt. It has been A RIDE!!!

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m the author of several books, including the #1 bestseller BLOODSPELL and the IPPY award winning BLOODCRAFT in my witch/vampire series; WATERFELLOCEANBORN, and SEAMONSTER in my twist-on-mermaids series; THE ALMOST GIRL and THE FALLEN PRINCE in my parallel universe science fiction series; and the Spring 2014 Kids’ Indie Next Pick ALPHA GODDESS and DARK GODDESS in my East Indian mythology series.

I am also the author of the best-selling THE BEAST OF BESWICK and co-author of the steamy historical romance series: the LORDS OF ESSEX and the TARTANS & TITANS series.

If you came here looking for my bonus material, the epic COVER REVEAL of TIDALSTORM, the last book in the Aquarathi series (SQUEEEEEE!!!), you’ll have to keep hunting! This hunt, I am a member of the PURPLE team!

At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the bonus material) will only be online until noon PST on Sunday October 4th!

Check out the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are five contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the PURPLE TEAM–but there are also other fabulous teams for a chance to win a whole different set of signed books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, OR IF YOU ARE STUCK, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.

SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE

Directions: In my post, you’ll notice that I’ve hidden my favorite number in PURPLE somewhere. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on each team, and then add them up.

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by OCTOBER 4TH, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

ARE YOU GUYS READY?!?!

I am so happy to be hosting KAT ELLIS, author of HARROW LAKE, for this leg of the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Kat Ellis is the author of YA horror/thriller Harrow Lake, and YA thrillers Purge, Breaker, and Blackfin Sky.

When she is not writing, Kat can usually be found exploring ruins and cemeteries with her camera.

About the book:

Lola Nox is the daughter of a celebrated horror filmmaker – she thinks nothing can scare her. But when her father is brutally attacked in their New York apartment, she’s swiftly packed off to live with a grandmother she’s never met in Harrow Lake, the eerie town where her father’s most iconic horror movie was shot.

The locals are weirdly obsessed with the film that put their town on the map – and there are strange disappearances, which the police seem determined to explain away.

And there’s someone – or something – stalking Lola’s every move.

The more she discovers about the town, the more terrifying it becomes. Because Lola’s got secrets of her own. And if she can’t find a way out of Harrow Lake, they might just be the death of her…

Find out more information about this exciting book by checking out KAT ELLIS‘s website!

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

And DRUMROLL please … now for KAT ELLIS‘s exclusive content!

Harrow Lake playlist by Kat Ellis

When I’m revising a manuscript, I always like to have a playlist that sums up the feeling of a certain scene, character, or even a setting. These were some of the songs and sounds I listened to for inspiration while I was working on Harrow Lake.

Vinyl static – This might seem like a weird one to take inspiration from, but when Lola follows a trail of blood into her apartment at the beginning of the book, she hears this sound. It’s not silence, but it is a void you feel in your gut.

‘Tain’t No Sin by Lee Morse – This song is mentioned a few times in the book, and is a cheery little jazz song about peeling off your skin (or clothes, whatever) and dancing around when it’s hot.

Boogie Woogie Man by Glen Gray – This is the perfect character theme song for Mister Jitters, the monster in Harrow Lake.

Paper Dress by Toadies –
A slightly more modern song this time! This is a song that feels very much like the tense, difficult relationship between Lola and her dad.

Drowning by Banks –
The melancholy feel of this tune is like Lola’s mom, Lorelei, in song-form.

Enjoy!

WHOA! This makes me want to do THIRTEEN cartwheels!

To read more about KAT ELLIS and HARROW LAKE be sure to click on the links!

To enter the contest, you need to know that my favorite number is hidden somewhere in this post (hint: scroll up two lines – it starts with THIR and ends with TEEN). Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the blue team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

While you’re here with me, be sure to enter the personal contest I’m hosting below for a chance to win a $40 Amazon gift card for all of you stuck at home during these tough times. Normally, I always give away signed books, but I am hoping that this GC can be put to use to buy you a little something to make yourself happy. Please stay safe and healthy, my friends!

Contest is international (you must be able to accept an Amazon GC gifted from the US, if not, I am happy to buy you your choice of book(s) from Book Depository in the listed prize amount).

Quarantine was the only time I was actually able to get some reading done so I pounded out a bunch of books to complete my goodreads challenge. I do have to say The Atlantis Grail series and the individual books of House of Earth and Blood and Ninth House were pretty mind blowing.
