The Vampire Seduction Handbook
Let me start by saying that this book is not for children nor the faint-hearted. There’s a good chance it’ll get your heart-rate up as it contains some pretty graphic stuff about vampire lovers, romance, and sexual practices. It even covers vampire conversion. The Vampire Seduction Handbook is supposedly co-written by a “vampire,” Luc Richard Ballion, born in 1753, and Scott Bowen, author of The Vampire Survival Guide.
For the most part, a lot of the ideas are status quo on what has already been written of vampires: drink blood, live in darkness, animal magnetism, speed, strength, mind-communication, blood-bonds, hunters, etc. But in a unique way, more along the parallel lines of a self-help book for people looking for love or a life partner, the handbook is a how-to manual that covers attracting a vampire, dating, sex, marriage, breaking up…the gambit of human relationships, just with a vampire slant.
I thought the handbook was engaging, well-written, and quite humorous in parts. “Some people will exclaim that sex with vampires is tantamount to necrophilia. This is uninformed narrow-mindedness.” I did enjoy reading it from the perspective of a vampire, which was interesting and different. Dragged along here and there, but for the most part, the witty anecdotes and snippets of Luc’s own “history” kept the pace flowing fairly well.
The Vampire Seduction Handbook is a fun, interesting read that doesn’t take itself too seriously (and neither should any readers looking for non-fiction – it clearly says “humor” on the back jacket, so step back, breathe, and run a sanity check before you run out and do something clearly irrational like trying to entrap a vampire lover).
This little book will no doubt join the vampire-mania currently sweeping the nation. I’d rate it 3 out of 5 stars. November 4, 2009 at 12:04 am (14 years ago)Diana – I think it will be VERY interesting to read and review your book, only because it will undoubtedly give the “female perspective,” which if it’s anything like real life, should be quite interesting when juxtaposed with this obviously “male” version of vampire seduction. Scott Bowen is a funny guy and it seems he and I are of a mind in a lot of ways on this subject. For the female (and mortal) point of view, as well as insights from my bevy of charming vampire friends (and they did NOT threaten me with bites to make me say that, LOL), I hope you’ll take a look at my book sometime as well.
