Welcome to the summer 2012 YA Scavenger Hunt!

Hello and welcome, everyone! For you first timers, the YA Scavenger Hunt is an online blog hop sponsored by authors who write books for both Young Adults and the Young at Heart. Each of us hosts a different fabulous author on the tour, so if you came here looking for my bonus material, a deleted scene from BLOODSPELL, you’ll have to keep hunting!

At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are TWO contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM–but there is also a blue team for a chance to win a whole different set of amazing signed books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.

SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE

Directions: Below, you’ll notice that I’ve included my favorite number somewhere in this post (hint: it will be in RED!) Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the red team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator).

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by August 5, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

And now, without further ado … on to the hunt goodies!

SCAVENGER HUNT GUEST

I’m totally thrilled to be hosting the fabulous Tracy Deebs, author of the Tempest Series! After all, we could practically be related! She surfs, I surf. She’s afraid of sharks, I’m afraid of sharks. She likes to skydive, I like to bungee. I think we need to hang out, and talk about Matt Damon’s apples (Good Will Hunting reference, people). Anyway, speaking about hunting, here’s some more about Tracy …

TRACY’S BIO

Tracy Deebs collects books, English degrees and lipsticks and has been known to forget where—and sometimes who—she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story in aquamarine magic marker—something with a rainbow and a prince—and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel.  From the first page of that first book, she knew she’d found her life-long love.  Now a writing professor at her local community college, Tracy writes YA novels that run the gamut from dark mermaids to kissing clubs to techno-Armageddon stories… and she still has a soft spot for Judy Blume.

Tracy’s latest book is called TEMPEST UNLEASHED. Check it out below!

Isn’t this cover gorgeous!? Just looking at it makes me want to be a mermaid! In case you’d like to know what the book is all about, here is the description:

Eight months have passed since Tempest Maguire embraced her mermaid heritage and her mother’s clan. As the future merQueen, Tempest holds dominion over the entire ocean and has access to more magic than she had ever dreamed possible. More important, she has Kona, the selkie prince whose passion and power kindle her own. But when Tempest receives word that her brother has been gravely injured, she rushes to his side—once again facing a choice. Her father and brothers have barely survived her absence, and the intense connection she once felt for her old flame, Mark, has only strengthened with time. But Tempest’s life is not the only one at stake. The sea witch Tiamat still desires to control all who live among the ocean depths—and Tempest alone has enough power to face her. As a deadly battle looms beneath the waves, Tempest once again finds herself caught—between Kona and Mark, sea and land—and this time, she might not survive her choice.

Sounds super-exciting, right? Find out more information by checking out Tracy’s website, and if you can’t wait another second to get TEMPEST UNLEASHED for yourself, buy her books here!

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

~ END OF HUNT ~ Exclusive content removed. Please click the links below for more info on Tracy.

HOLY MOLY, readers! Are you guys shaking after reading that? I sure am!! Just in case you want to check out the first two books in the trilogy before having to wait until 2013 (sigh!) for the rest of TEMPEST REVEALED, here are the links once again to check out Tracy’s website for lots more info on the Tempest series, as well as direct links where you can pick up copies of her books!

Don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Tracy Deebs, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is hidden somewhere in this post (hint: keep reading). Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the red team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize! Also keep in mind that most of the authors are doing their own giveaways so there are many chances to win something unique and special.

Thank you so much for visiting my website! While you’re here with me, be sure to enter the personal contest I’m hosting below, at the bottom of this post. Up for grabs are 7 prizes–three autographed copies of BLOODSPELL, two custom-designed BLOODSPELL necklaces, and two sterling silver triquetra charms.

I love YA books because they take you in a new world, with strong characters and their own personalities, they can make you laugh or cry and because it`s a good way of scaping of this world and leaving everything on one side.I think you need to do that sometimes. People who don`t read do it by music or films but I love reading books with all their problems, adventure and romantic situations!

LOVE the question!! x) I love YA because the characters are so relatable! Plus, it’s a good toll for me to daydream LOL! Why do good guys only exist in books, especially YA? 😛 I’m hoping to see more diversity in YA though – it might be me who read too much YA books already LOL! Less love triangles, more kickbutt heroines! x)

I love YA because I just love having a great book to read, and I especially love cheesy romances in my YA novels because lets face it- I love snuggling into bed with a good, cheesy romance that makes me grin! I’d like to see more YA books that are more unique, though- a lot of YA novels follow the same general plot, and it gets tiresome sometimes. I’d also love seeing stronger heroines with power… and maybe some spunky attitude!

    Oh, whoops, missed the question.

I love YA because there are so many different worlds and settings and characters, and none of them are the same. I can escape into a different world whenever I want with YA books.

What I love most? I love that I can meet these characters and get to know them and love them more than I do people in real life. That sounds sad I know but I cant help. Theyre so real, and you know that its all pure in a way. That they wont let you down. They give you the hope that you didnt realize you were looking for. They give you happiness. Its hard to explain. But I find such comfort in reading, I’d rather read than almost anything else. It takes me back in time, and jumps me in the future. It teaches me things I never taught I could be interested in. Its such a passion of mine, and I love to thank authors for giving us the opportunity to read their books and meet these wonderful characters!

I love YA because of the whimsy. It’s simply wonderful to take a break from my relatively boring existence and travel into a parallel universe where melodrama and suspense preside and tragedy is often encouraged (despite the fact that it has a sometimes severe effect on us readers.) The only thing that I can say I’d rather see… well actually NOT see is cliffhangers, otherwise known as the most effective torture device for bibliophiles. ~Claire

Thanks so much for participating in the hunt and for hosting an additional giveaway of your own.The prizes are amazing.

As for your question, I may be 26, but I love YA because honestly, life is hectic as a wife and mom. Part of me will always love that new feeling of first love (I’ve been married for 7 years & we’ve been together for 9.) and being lost in a world full of unidentified emotions. YA always brings back those memories. As for what I’d like to see, more kickass heroines. I think we’re on a roll with this already, though. I like that we don’t always have to be portrayed as the damsel in distress, that we’re every bit as badass as the guys.

    Thanks again,

I would like to see the disapperance of love triangles. They bug the living crap out of me. A good chunk of YA books have love triangles in them and I always get invested in one guy and end up hating the other. Why can’t lines be perfectly okay?

I have struggled with reading my entire life, and I have vowed to make a difference in my children! So far so good! They are loving the classics (ones I never read). What I love most in the YA books is the fact that no matter how similar they are(good guy/girl fights and wins over the bad guy/girl) there’s always some twists and turns that are so unexpected. Most of the books I read manage to keep me on the edge of my seat and that’s what I love most. I read fantasy so I’d like to see some different scenarios, something different from vampires and werewolves… maybe more mythology… And I would love more of the Mature YA books. Those that raise some more serious questions… More books like Pushing the limits by Katie McGarry!

I love YA books because they are the books that really introduced me to reading. And now, because of them, I can’t imagine my life without books. Also, we can find books about everything in YA (magic, werewolves, vampires, faeries, friendship, adventure, school-life etc.). It’s easy to relate to the characters. I think that even when I’ll be an adult, I’ll still love YA. Contrary to what most people think, they’re not only for young people but for everyone. You just need to like the topic and story and characters…

I love YA books because they’re always something different, there’s always a different plot, different characters and different things that always makes us all fall in love with. YA books are something we can relate to or wish we could relate to. They’re a world that we can escape to and pretend that it’s our story and we experience it along with the characters, their moods and their feelings. They give us good humor and whether we know it or not they tend to teach us something important about life. They’re for all ages as even adults reminisce about what it was like when they were a teen and what they wish happened to them. What I would like to see more in YA books is something new and fresh, something that’s never done before. A new idea?…species?…world?

Thankyou for giving us a chance at an awesome giveaway!

I love the good stories, I don’t have a favorite book genre. There are so many good books or series in YA genre and some of my favorite authors are YA writers. The truth is many of these are so much mature and clever from adult books. I wish when I was a teen there were books which I could relate with the characters, with their first mistakes and their first love but it is not too late because YA books are for all ages.

I love that the characters haven’t been completely jaded by life as many in adult fiction have been. And that it’s often the first time things have happened – first time falling in love, first time fighting a werewolf… whatever the scenario I like that when I’m reading it and getting to know the characters they’re also getting to know themselves. And I think I feel that more in YA than other genres
