Welcome to the summer 2012 YA Scavenger Hunt!

Hello and welcome, everyone! For you first timers, the YA Scavenger Hunt is an online blog hop sponsored by authors who write books for both Young Adults and the Young at Heart. Each of us hosts a different fabulous author on the tour, so if you came here looking for my bonus material, a deleted scene from BLOODSPELL, you’ll have to keep hunting!

At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are TWO contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM–but there is also a blue team for a chance to win a whole different set of amazing signed books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.

SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE

Directions: Below, you’ll notice that I’ve included my favorite number somewhere in this post (hint: it will be in RED!) Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the red team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator).

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by August 5, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

And now, without further ado … on to the hunt goodies!

SCAVENGER HUNT GUEST

I’m totally thrilled to be hosting the fabulous Tracy Deebs, author of the Tempest Series! After all, we could practically be related! She surfs, I surf. She’s afraid of sharks, I’m afraid of sharks. She likes to skydive, I like to bungee. I think we need to hang out, and talk about Matt Damon’s apples (Good Will Hunting reference, people). Anyway, speaking about hunting, here’s some more about Tracy …

TRACY’S BIO

Tracy Deebs collects books, English degrees and lipsticks and has been known to forget where—and sometimes who—she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story in aquamarine magic marker—something with a rainbow and a prince—and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel.  From the first page of that first book, she knew she’d found her life-long love.  Now a writing professor at her local community college, Tracy writes YA novels that run the gamut from dark mermaids to kissing clubs to techno-Armageddon stories… and she still has a soft spot for Judy Blume.

Tracy’s latest book is called TEMPEST UNLEASHED. Check it out below!

Isn’t this cover gorgeous!? Just looking at it makes me want to be a mermaid! In case you’d like to know what the book is all about, here is the description:

Eight months have passed since Tempest Maguire embraced her mermaid heritage and her mother’s clan. As the future merQueen, Tempest holds dominion over the entire ocean and has access to more magic than she had ever dreamed possible. More important, she has Kona, the selkie prince whose passion and power kindle her own. But when Tempest receives word that her brother has been gravely injured, she rushes to his side—once again facing a choice. Her father and brothers have barely survived her absence, and the intense connection she once felt for her old flame, Mark, has only strengthened with time. But Tempest’s life is not the only one at stake. The sea witch Tiamat still desires to control all who live among the ocean depths—and Tempest alone has enough power to face her. As a deadly battle looms beneath the waves, Tempest once again finds herself caught—between Kona and Mark, sea and land—and this time, she might not survive her choice.

Sounds super-exciting, right? Find out more information by checking out Tracy’s website, and if you can’t wait another second to get TEMPEST UNLEASHED for yourself, buy her books here!

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

~ END OF HUNT ~ Exclusive content removed. Please click the links below for more info on Tracy.

HOLY MOLY, readers! Are you guys shaking after reading that? I sure am!! Just in case you want to check out the first two books in the trilogy before having to wait until 2013 (sigh!) for the rest of TEMPEST REVEALED, here are the links once again to check out Tracy’s website for lots more info on the Tempest series, as well as direct links where you can pick up copies of her books!

Don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Tracy Deebs, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is hidden somewhere in this post (hint: keep reading). Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the red team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize! Also keep in mind that most of the authors are doing their own giveaways so there are many chances to win something unique and special.

Thank you so much for visiting my website! While you’re here with me, be sure to enter the personal contest I’m hosting below, at the bottom of this post. Up for grabs are 7 prizes–three autographed copies of BLOODSPELL, two custom-designed BLOODSPELL necklaces, and two sterling silver triquetra charms.

My band teacher said to the class one day “Teenagers have the most craziest emotions” and I totally agree. To see YA books would be to see from a teen’s point of view, and completely throw you off balance. I LOVE YA!!!

Thanks for the awesome giveaway! I love YA books because they just appeal to me more. I love books about teens in transition. I’m still a young adult (20) and I love reading about people who can relate to me, in paranormal worlds or not, but I’ll love YA forever!

I love YA because it is a genre that I can relate to. I struggle emotionally and internally just as many of the characters do. Adult books aren’t relatable to me and sometimes cover topics too heavy for readers like me, but middle grade books are a bit too immature. YA and New Adult are the perfect in-between and I’m in love with them both. Can’t live without them!

I love that YA usually has fast paced kick ass plots with those awkward emotions of teens. I’m a sucker for YA ever since reading the Harry Potter series!

YA is definitely the master genre, combining so many awesome things (even though there are so many dystopian and paranormal out there, I can’t seem to get enough of them!). I would love to see more mystery-historical-thrillers like Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman. Thank you so much for this amazing contest!

There have been some great heroines in recent YA but there is always room for more. A mother of two girls I really want them to grow up reading fantastic stories about other strong independent young women.

I would like to see more YA that doesn’t romanticize obsessive love that transcends all reason (think Bella/Edward in Twilight). I’d also like to see less love triangles. Most love triangles are poorly done and it almost always obvious which one the MC is going to end up with, which defeats the whole purpose. I have seen some that are very well done and you really can’t say one is better over the other.

Although I’m not a Young Adult anymore, I love YA because the characters are in one of the most interesting times of their lives. they don’t have responsibilities like work but they do have to figure out who they are and who they want to become which is harder than some things adults have to do.
