Fall 2019 YA Scavenger Hunt

Welcome to the fantastic book circus that is the YA Scavenger Hunt! For those new to the fun-fest that is YASH, this bi-annual event was first organized by the fabulous Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to bonus material from their favorite authors … and a chance to win some awesome prizes!

So for those of you who don’t know me, I’m the author of several books, including the #1 bestseller BLOODSPELL and the IPPY award winning BLOODCRAFT in my witch/vampire series; WATERFELLOCEANBORN, and SEAMONSTER in my twist-on-mermaids series; THE ALMOST GIRL and THE FALLEN PRINCE in my parallel universe science fiction series; and the Spring 2014 Kids’ Indie Next Pick ALPHA GODDESS and DARK GODDESS in my Hindu mythology series. I am also the co-author of the steamy historical romance series: the LORDS OF ESSEX and the TARTANS & TITANS series.

If you came here looking for my bonus material, an excerpt from WATERFELL, you’ll have to keep hunting! This hunt, I am a member of the PURPLE team!

At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the bonus material) will only be online until noon PST on Sunday October 6th!

Check out the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are five contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the PURPLE TEAM–but there are also other fabulous teams for a chance to win a whole different set of signed books!

ARE YOU GUYS READY?!?!

I am so happy to be hosting my friend, the lovely PINTIP DUNN, author of MALICE for this leg of the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Pintip Dunn is a New York Times bestselling author of young adult fiction. She graduated from Harvard University, magna cum laude, with an A.B., and received her J.D. at Yale Law School.

Pintip’s novel FORGET TOMORROW won the 2016 RWA RITA® for Best First Book, and SEIZE TODAY won the 2018 RITA for Best Young Adult Romance. Her books have been translated into four languages, and they have been nominated for the following awards: the Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire; the Japanese Sakura Medal; the MASL Truman Award; the Tome Society It list; and the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award. Her other titles include REMEMBER YESTERDAY, THE DARKEST LIE, GIRL ON THE VERGE, STAR-CROSSED, and the upcoming MALICE.

About MALICE:

What I know:

a student in my class will one day wipe out two-thirds of the population with a virus

What I don’t know:

who they are

In a race against the clock, I not only have to figure out their identity, but I’ll have to outwit a voice from the future telling me to kill them. Because I’m starting to realize no one is telling the truth. But how can I play chess with someone who already knows the outcome of my every move? Someone so filled with malice she’s lost all hope in humanity? Well, I’ll just have to find a way—because now she’s drawn a target on the only boy I’ve ever loved…

Find out more information about this exciting book by checking out  PINTIP DUNN‘s website!

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

And DRUMROLL please … now for PINTIP DUNN‘s  exclusive content! A deleted scene from MALICE!!

I’m so excited to share with you a never-before-seen excerpt
from my new book, MALICE (coming Feb. 2020!) This book is so near and dear to
my heart. It’s got my fav elements of any story — a twisty plot, with a
difficult moral choice at its core. More than that, I’m kinda, sorta, TOTALLY
in love with my characters! Alice is bad at cooking and as loyal as the time
stream is long. I almost feel badly about what I put her through… except I’m
also giving her Bandit, the blue-haired Thai boy who just might be my favorite
hero. (Shhhh!!! Don’t tell the others!)

Check out this excerpt for a quick introduction to Alice and
Bandit!

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive: black
flannel shirt, sleeves rolled up. black jeans. white canvas sneakers.

Me: ???

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
ur imagining what im wearing, amirite? dont lovesick girls fantasize bout this
every morning?

Me: Hate to break it to
you, Bandit, but the only “sick” I’m about to be is all over my phone.

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
could u plz not call me that?

Me: What? Bandit? But
it’s your name.

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
yea, but when u say it, w ur proper capitals, it sounds like ur scolding
me

Me: What should I call
you then?

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
how bout babycakes?

Me: How about Most
Obnoxious Boy Alive? That’s how you’re listed under my Contacts.

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive: ur
giving me pet names already? aww, honey oats, thats sweet. not sure im ready 4
this level of commitment tho

Me: You started it!

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
ur rite. I did. ok fine. 2 eggs over easy. bacon. toast. what im having 4
breakfast

Me: Told you already.
Utterly uninterested.

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
chrysanthemum tea too. cuz it reminds me of my khun yai. she used to make it 4
me every morning w loads of brown sugar

My fingers hover over my cell phone. I can’t bring myself to
shut him down. Not now. Because I know from Lalana that Khun Yai means “grandmother.” And…he spoke about her in the past
tense.

I remember, too, that Lalana attended a funeral last year.
And I’m pretty sure it was for Bandit’s grandmother.

Me: Of course you would
like your tea super sweet.

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
I dont. but thats how my khun yai liked it, so thats how I drank it

Me: And that’s how you
still make your tea?

Dots appear. And then disappear. And then appear again, as
though he can’t decide how to respond. I meant the question as a throw-away,
but now, I’m gripping my phone like our very future depends on the answer.
 Finally, his response pops up.

Most Obnoxious Boy Alive:
yea. thats how I still make my tea

Definitely underwater. There are so many different animals and places to see. It also seems like there are way more things to see and do underwater then in the air.

I’m so torn! I love swimming, so underwater would be fun. But I’d also love to be able to fly, since I can already swim. So I guess I’m going with living in the sky! 😀

I would have to see the scenery I would be living in, and understand the physics of living underwater. I’d have to know the limitations of each. If I can talk normally and such underwater I would love that. If I’m in the sky, I feel it could be limiting if you cannot go to the ground. Both sound cold haha, but maybe living in a tropical sea is what I’d choose.

It’s a tough question. The sky is full of possibility and freedom, it would be what i needed to spread my wings, literally. On the other hand, there are so many question about the sea that i have and want to find out the answers to.
However, the sky would have to be my answer if i could only choose one. The sky means absolute control of my life since i would be free to fly high with no restrictions.

Both are potentially deadly, but I guess I’d choose living in the sky, it’s less suffocating… and less dark. ?

I think I like the idea of living in the sky. Hopefully that would mean I’d have some ability to fly (on my own or with some type of aircraft, flying contraption, etc.), and then I could visit the land and water if and when I want to. ^_^

(Living underwater sounds incredibly interesting too, but large sea creatures make me nervous. Even some freshwater species. I like to study them but still…)

I’m afraid of heights so the sky probably wouldn’t be fun for me. The underwater world is magnificent and mysterious. The ocean is a whole other world that most people don’t know or understand. I would love to being one of the people who could understand this world.

I would have to say sky, mainly because I love dragons and other mythical flying creatures. Even though I’m afraid of falling, I feel more at home with my head in the clouds.
